SAN FRANCISCO & NORTH

SAN FRANCISCO & NORTH

We are still trying to get north to Vancouver – seems we have been going forever – we did have to stop for 3 weeks whilst we went back to Australia. David’s mother was seriously ill and consequently passed away – she was 94.
We saw some sights in San Francisco – great place for architecture –
Left San Francisco as soon as we arrived back and headed north whilst the weather was okay. Travelled for about 40 hrs and pulled into Crescent City on the border of California and Oregon. Sounds a wonderful place but is a bit down now as the timber industry has gone and the fishing industry is all but gone – fishing stocks down and the Government has been buying back the licences. The town has 7000 residents; 5000 of them are prisoners!!! Has the biggest jail for the worst crims in California.
The other disaster to strike this place down was the tsunami in 1964 which wiped out the town and seems it has never recovered from there on.
The Redwood forests are just south of the town - very large trees.
We are waiting for reasonable weather – don’t think there is any good weather on this coast – this years is the worst for a long time – lucky us.
