LAS VEGAS

Casinos start on the California/Nevada border

What a place – if you are interested in gambling, shopping and sex , this is for you.
We drove up from San Diego – about 6 hrs – and stayed on ‘The Strip’ at Treasure Island Hotel. What names for the hotels – The Venetian, The Palazzo, Belaggio, Wynns, and of course the ones from the Rat pack days such as Caesars Palace, Sahara, Flamingo etc.

The insides of the hotels are an entertainment in themselves – canals with gondolas inside with the shops, giant animals and elaborate furnishings and decor.
Thousands of people playing on thousands of pokie machines in each of the hotels with an equal number strolling around looking and a few buying at the upmarket designer shops. Is there a recession on in the US? You wouldn’t think it being in Las Vegas.

The drive up through the Mojave Desert was very boring with lots of power poles all the way – well they have to get power I suppose to drive all the pokie machines and lights.
